Job Summary
The Child and Youth Mentor is essential to HOPE's mission, providing trauma-informed, family-style care and fostering independence for vulnerable children and youth.
This role delivers individualized, relational healing and mentorship by implementing support plans, providing crisis intervention, and actively coaching youth through our specialized, outcome-focused programs.
Key Responsibilities
Provide care that is grounded in empathy, professionalism, and trauma-informed practice, with a focus on building trust and safety with children and youth.
Deliver one-to-one support, mentorship, and crisis intervention within family-style residential settings and approved community-based environments, as required.
Support children and youth in a variety of external settings, including schools, family homes, access visits, healthcare settings, and community programs, in accordance with individual service plans.
Actively support the development of life skills that promote self-advocacy, independence, and confidence through daily routines and structured programming.
Implement and model HOPE Cares’ in-house residential programs, supporting youth development in areas such as daily living skills, education, identity and self-awareness, wellness, and independence.
Provide care that is responsive to each young person’s cultural background, beliefs, values, identity, and lived experience, in accordance with organizational policies and training.
Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation, including shift notes, incident reports, and Plan of Care tracking.
Adhere to all applicable legislation, regulations, and standards, including the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) and the Quality Standards Framework.
Ensure safe transportation, supervision, and assistance with daily living tasks, as required by role and assignment.
Qualifications (Required)
Community College Diploma or University Degree in a Social Services field.
Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience supporting children or youth with complex needs and trauma histories.
Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed practice is critical.
Current Broad Record Check.
Current Child Welfare Record Check (obtained from local Children’s Aid Society).
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
Crisis training (CPI, UMAB, SMG, TCI).
Valid Class “G” Driver’s License and current Driver’s Abstract.
Access to an insured vehicle with $2 million liability insurance.
Up-to-date immunizations and TB test
